Chime and iCloud Contacts Sync via API Nation

The Chime and iCloud Contacts integration will synchronize your Contacts between Chime, your iPhone and iPad. The integration has two Syncs available so you can create a complete two way sync between Chime and iCloud Contacts.

  • All of your Chime Contacts are available in your iPhone phonebook and ready for quick, easy access to call or text

  • Updated Contacts names will be accurately displayed through caller ID and texts

  • Keep Chime contacts info in lock step with your iPhone and iPad Contacts info.

Checkout the video above to see it in action.

If you'd prefer to read through a guide, here's a step-by-step:

Head to https://my.apination.com/apps/chime/icloud_contacts/ to get started.

There you will see 2 syncs available for Chime and iCloud Contacts.

  1. Chime leads to iCloud Contacts contacts

  2. iCloud Contacts contacts into Chime

You can set up 1 or both of these Syncs for the same flat rate. Click activate to begin set up.

First you will sign into your API Nation account.

  1. If you don’t have an API Nation account yet, click the “Create One” link here to get started. You will submit an email address and password, and then have to confirm your email address to set up the account.

  2. If you already have an API Nation account click to to sign in

  3. If you have a Google account you can click here to sign in, or to create an account connected to your Google account

Once you’ve signed in, you’ll be asked to Connect Chime, click the button “Connect Chime Account”

To connect Chime, Sign into your Chime account and click Authorize

Next you will connect iCloud Contacts. Click the “Connect iPhone Contacts Account” button

To connect your iPhone Contacts, you’ll need your Apple ID, and an app-specific-password. There are links on this form to guides to create your app-specific-password

To create the app-specific-password, open a new tab and go to https://appleid.apple.com/

Sign in with your Apple ID and related password.

It will ask you for Two Factor Authentication. Check your iPhone, iPad, or Macbook for the 6 digit code.

Once signed in, click on the tile for “App-Specific Passwords”

Click Generate, Add a name (e.g. API Nation) and then click “Create”

Once you’ve created the password, highlight it and press cmd+c or ctrl+c to copy.

Go back to the API Nation tab in your browser, and paste the password in using cmd+v or ctrl+v

Once you’ve connected your iPhone Contacts (iCloud), you can now begin configuring your Sync for launch.

There are a few options to decide before activating the Sync. Starting with the “Chime leads to iCloud Contacts people” sync:

  1. “Sync all Contacts on first run”: Check the box to send over all contacts from Chime, leave the box unchecked if you’d only like to start sending over new contacts added from today going forward.

  2. Source: Optional filter, only Sync over contacts from Chime with a particular Source. Just enter the Source here.

  3. Group Filter: Optional Filter to only Sync contacts from a particular group in Chime

  4. Agent Filter: Optional filter, choose to send contacts assigned to All Agents, or a single specified Agent.

  5. Filter Tags: Optional filter to send over contacts to iCloud Contacts from a tag or number of tags. Be sure to add a comma after each tag, and enter the tags exactly as they are in Chime, including capitalization.

Scroll down and confirm the mapping.

If there are any additional fields you would like to connect, click the “Plus” icon on the right of the empty field, and select the field from the drop down.

You can add multiple fields into a single iCloud field (e.g. *First Name* *Last Name* into the *Full Name* iCloud field).

You can also add plain text to a field (e.g. add the Text “Chime” in a field called Lead Source, so mark all the leads coming through as from the source “Chime”)

Once you’re satisfied with the options, Scroll to the top and click the big Activate Sync button.

The Sync will now be activated. From here you can…

  1. Rename the Sync (helpful if you created multiple Syncs with slightly different rules.

  2. Pause the Sync

  3. Clone the Sync to create a Sync with the exact same connection and configuration, you can then make the slight configuration changes to fit your needs

  4. Click the Chime logo or iCloud Contacts logo to be taken to their full menu of Syncs available.

You can then go back to: https://my.apination.com/apps/chime/icloud_contacts to set up your choice of the remaining Chime and iCloud Contacts Syncs.

Once you’ve connected them, they will all be available for management in the “My Syncs” area of API Nation.

That’s it!

As soon as a contact is updated or added in Chime, the integration will see it and send it over to your iPhone Contacts. And as soon as you add a Contact to your iPhone Contacts that contact will also be added into Chime.

Your Caller ID info will always be up to date, your contacts are completely backed up, and you’ll save time managing contacts.
